STRATEGY​​

The Old Church Concert Hall needed a new set of visuals to support its website and better promote the space for concerts, private events, and weddings.

​

As a restored Victorian landmark in the middle of downtown Portland, the venue offers a unique blend of historic character and modern-day use. However, existing imagery didn’t fully capture that contrast or the range of spaces available within the building.

​

Working in collaboration with a media and advertising agency, the goal was to create a cohesive set of images that would highlight both the architectural significance and the versatility of the venue.

For a venue like The Old Church Concert Hall, the imagery needed to do two things at once: clearly communicate the layout and usability of the space, while also capturing the atmosphere: the light, texture, and history that make the venue distinctive.

By balancing clean, informative architectural coverage with more expressive, mood-driven imagery, the visuals could appeal to both event planners and individuals looking for a memorable setting.

PRODUCTION

Over two days, the shoot was structured to capture both clarity and character across the space.

​​

Exterior & Context
The building was photographed from multiple ground-level perspectives, alongside aerial/drone views. This helped position the historic structure within the surrounding city, highlighting its contrast against modern architecture and reinforcing its landmark presence.

Interior Coverage
Key spaces, including the auditorium, bar, green room, tower, and catwalk, were documented with a focus on accuracy and usability. A blend of natural and controlled lighting ensured consistent color and detail, allowing visitors to clearly understand each space.

Atmosphere & Detail
In addition to clean architectural imagery, a series of more expressive photographs were created. Light filtering through stained glass, textures of aged materials, and subtle contrasts were used to evoke the building’s history and character, adding emotional depth to the overall image set.

The result was a balanced approach: structured where clarity mattered, and creative where atmosphere defined the experience.

ACTIVATION

The final imagery provided The Old Church Concert Hall with a cohesive visual library that supports both storytelling and functionality on the website.

Visitors can now easily explore the venue’s layout and features, while also getting a strong sense of its unique atmosphere. The updated visuals help position the space as both a historic landmark and a versatile destination for events, performances, and weddings.
